Saturday July 25, 2015, was a day my life would start changing. On that day, I was in Kalangala district, a tourist’s paradise in Lake Victoria, when I got a call that my elder brother and guardian, Sam, had been hospitalised and was gravely ill. On 4th August 2015, at 1.20 am, he succumbed after his life support machine was switched off.
After Sam’s death, a bitter family row broke out over where he was to be buried. His widow and some of his daughters insisted that he had willed that he be buried in ‘his-in-laws’ graveyard. My siblings and I, considered that a cultural abomination and refused.
